Well, if I could sum up today's event in one word, it would be "Wow!" Mother Nature must have been in on the fun because she certainly smiled down upon us. Despite the stiff competition from other fantastic family events in Simi Valley and Ventura County today, we managed to pull off something truly spectacular.
Roy, you and your team made it all look like a walk in the park, and for that, we're sending kudos your way. I couldn't help but notice the sea of smiling faces and the sheer joy in the children's eyes.
First and foremost, a big thank you to everyone I personally had the pleasure of witnessing (and remembering) helping and supporting this event. Our very own Mayor Fred Thomas and our own foundation council members, Dee Dee Cavanaugh and Mike Judge, were in attendance, adding their support. A shoutout to my neighbor and friend Councilman Rocky Rhodes for joining in on the fun.
Our incredible cadre of Foundation Volunteers deserves a standing ovation: Bill Klepper and his remarkable partner Susan, Leigh Seaton, Peter Carrube (back from surgery and still giving it his all), Link Ahlers, Bobby Calderon, Justin Honsinger, Larry Borovay, Troy Cox and family, Tony Falato, Wade Klepic, Darci Richardson, Mike Smith and family bringing with him the venerable Brett and of course Frank Bush (Go Simi Valley Pioneers).
But wait, there's more! Our Chief of Police, Chief Shorts, Commander Wedemeyer, and his two adorable puppies were there, along with numerous department personnel, not to mention two motorcycles, the SWAT vehicle, and the Command center crews that added to the excitement.
I know there are many more unsung heroes from today's event, and I apologize if I missed anyone. It's not because you didn't contribute – it's simply because I got caught up in the whirlwind of this fantastic day, and my memory isn't what it used to be.
Your dedication to our cause and your involvement in this event will play a significant role in its success. Together, we can show our appreciation for our officers and further strengthen the bonds between the police and our community.
In any case, today was a day to remember, and it wouldn't have been possible without each and every one of you. You made it an event that will be talked about for a long time to come.
Thank you for your support, and let's make this year's (2024) Recognition Awards Dinner a memorable one. We look forward to celebrating with you.
